Step 1: Meet the Basic Requirements
Before applying for a security license in Ontario, you must meet the following requirements:
✔️ Be at least 18 years old
✔️ Be legally entitled to work in Canada
✔️ Have a clean criminal record as per Ontario Regulation 37/08, under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 (PSISA)
✔️ Obtain a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)

Step 2: Complete a Ministry-Compliant Security Guard Training Course

Step 3: Write the Ontario Security Guard Exam
Once you have completed your security training and received your Training Completion Number (TCN) from us, you are eligible to write the Ontario security guard exam.
The exam is administered by SERCO and can be written:

✔️ In-person at a DriveTest centre
This multiple-choice exam tests your knowledge of the topics covered in your training. Upon passing, you will receive an Ontario Testing Completion Number (TCN) needed for your license application.
Step 4: Apply for Your Security Guard License
After passing the exam, you can apply for your Ontario security license through ServiceOntario. You’ll need to provide:

Your security guard license is valid for two years, expiring on your second birthday after the license is issued. For example, if your birthday is December 15 and your license was issued on October 1, 2024, it will expire on December 15, 2025.
Renewal follows the same process, ensuring that your license remains active and compliant.
